MMP-9 levels in cerebrospinal fluid of rats with meningitis treated with placebo or glycerol. The amounts of MMP-9 did not differ in the acute phase of the disease at 24 h after infection. Subsequently, the levels decreased approximately 10-fold in both treatment groups. At 40 h after infection glycerol-treated animals showed significantly (P < 0.05) lower levels of MMP-9 than placebo-treated animals (Log2 scale).
