The flow diagram of data collection and laboratory diagnosis of C. difficile infection. Stool samples from patients with antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) were cultured for C. difficile. Isolates from culture positive patients were assayed for toxin A/B in vitro and if positive for toxin in vitro, cases were identified as HA-CDI. Cases were further categorized by PCR amplification of isolates to determine their toxin gene profiles (toxin A, B, CDT). This surveillance was carried out from June 2014 to March 2016 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University
